This California Turkey Burger is so delicious and is perfect for a weekday meal. It is easy to make but tastes like a restaurant style burger. I used to not like turkey burgers, but the reason was, I had only had dry bland turkey burgers. This burger is the opposite of that. This burger is juicy and full of flavors.

How to prepare a juicy turkey patty

In order to make a turkey burger that’s flavorful and juicy, you will need to add fresh herbs, breadcrumbs, and an egg or mayo. Yes, mayo makes your turkey burger juicy. You should try it sometime. For this recipe we will be using an egg.

How to prevent an avocado from turning brown

This burger has avocado, as you may know avocado tends to turn brown once it has been exposed to oxygen. To prevent the browning from happening we add a little lemon or lime.

If you are not using all the avocado and want to save a piece, you can do one of the following before putting it in the refrigerator.

  • Wrap in plastic wrap
  • Brush citrus on the exposed green part of the avocado and wrap in plastic wrap
  • Brush oil on the exposed green part of the avocado and wrap in plastic wrap

These methods will prevent browning from taking place because it adds a layer of protection against oxygen exposure.

How to make a California Turkey Burger

In a mixing bowl add the ground turkey, panko crumbs, grated garlic, thinly sliced green onions, egg, chopped parsley, and salt. Mix until well combined. Form the mixture into 4 burger patties. You can cover and place in the fridge.

In a cast iron skillet under medium to high heat add the oil and allow it to get hot, add the patties and cover for about 3-4 minutes, flip the patties, cover and cook for another 3-4 minutes. About 1 minute before the patties are done, add the cheese on top of each patty. Once the patties are done, transfer to a plate.

Meanwhile you’re cooking the patties, you can toast the wheat brioche buns. Spread a little mayo on each side, of the inside of the bun, and place it faced down, on a skillet under medium to high heat, until its lightly toasted. I use the Cheesecake Factory Gourmet Wheat Brioche Hamburger Bun, it goes great with the turkey burgers, but regular brioche hamburger buns will work well.

To make the avocado smash, in a bowl, smash the avocado, add some lemon or lime and salt to taste.

To make the chipotle mayo, in a bowl, combine the mayo and chipotle salsa until well combined.

To Assemble the turkey burger, place the bottom half of the wheat brioche bread on a cutting board or plate, spread some of the avocado smash, then add thinly sliced onions on top, add the turkey patty, add tomato, then lettuce. On the top half of the bun, spread the chipotle mayo and place it on top of the lettuce. Voila! You have an out of this world California turkey burger.
