  • 1 lbs ground turkey
  • 1/3 cup panko crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 garlic cloves grated
  • 1 teaspoon parsley chopped
  • 1 green onions thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pepper to taste

Chipotle Mayo

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon chipotle salsa San Marcos brand - canned – add more if you want it spicier

Avocado Smash

  • 1 avocado smashed
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice or lime

California Turkey Burger

  • 4 wheat brioche hamburger buns Cheesecake Factory Gourmet Wheat Brioche Hamburger Bun
  • 4 turkey patties
  • avocado smash
  • 1 tomato Large - Sliced
  • romaine lettuce
  • red onion thinly sliced
  • 4 Havarti cheese slices
  • chipotle mayo
  • salt to taste

Instructions

Turkey Patties

  • In a mixing bowl, add the ground turkey, panko crumbs, garlic, green onions, egg, parsley, and salt. Mix until well combined. Form the mixture into 4 burger patties.
  • In a cast iron skillet under medium to high heat, add the oil and allow it to get hot, add the patties and cover for about 3-4 minutes, flip the patties and cover for another 3-4 minutes. About 1 minute before the patties are done, add the cheese on top of each patty. Once the patties are done, transfer to a plate.

Toasted Buns

  • Meanwhile you cook the patties, you can toast the wheat brioche buns. Spread a little mayo on each side of the inside of the bun, and place it faced down, on a skillet under medium to high heat, until its lightly toasted.

Avocado Smash

  • In a bowl, smash the avocado, add some lemon and salt to taste.

Chipotle Mayo

  • In a bowl, combine chipotle salsa and mayo until well combined.

Assemble

  • To Assemble place the bottom half of the wheat brioche bread on a cutting board or plate, spread some of the avocado smash, add thinly sliced onions on top, add the turkey patty, add tomato, then lettuce. On the top half of the bun, spread the chipotle mayo and place it on top of the lettuce. Voila! You have an out of this world California turkey burger.

Notes

  • I use the Cheesecake Factory Gourmet Wheat Brioche Hamburger Bun, it goes great with the turkey burgers, but regular brioche hamburger buns will work well.
  • The lemon on the avocado smash will prevent it from turning black.
  • The secret to a perfectly toasted bread for a burger or sandwich is mayo instead of butter or oil.
